An Officer from the Flying Squad - Revisited

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week is "Paste", so you have the perfect opportunity to dig out your stencils, embossing pastes, gel mediums, gesso or even good old-fashioned glue-type paste! Create something and enter it into the challenge and you will be in the running for a $50 shopping voucher at Simon Says Stamp!

There's no entry from me again this week due to my recent illness (back to normal next week!) so I thought I'd take the opportunity to look back through my projects and pick out an oldie-but-goodie that fits with this week's challenge.  Of course, if I was making this piece today I would use Tim Holtz's excellent stars layering stencil, but that didn't exist when I made this (back in 2011) so I had to cut my own stencil!  As I said at the time....

"The frame was "lime-washed" with a couple of coats of Picket Fence distress stain then I used an ink blending tool to sponge  ... red, orange and yellow paint through a star stencil I had cut myself from a sheet of acetate.  The centre of each star was blinged up with the addition of an adhesive backed gem.

The figure was stamped and coloured with Promarkers.  The wings from Tim Holtz's Royal Script set were stamped in clear ink and embossed with clear powder.  I used a baby wipe to rub some black paint over the wings and then cut them out and fixed them on the frame with the figure.

The panel in the frame was spritzed with water from a mini-mister and then swiped with Dried Marigold, Fired Brick and Aged Mahogany Distress Stains, to give a blurry, watercolor finish. Finally I applied some black paint down the right hand side.  The stars were sponged in white and pastel yellow paint using the same stencil as earlier, then each one was edged with a white pen, which I rubbed with my finger to blur it before it dried.

And that's about it!  I had great fun making it, and I think the blingy gems really add to it!  Who knows, maybe I'll try to use some a little more regularly in future :)  As ever, if you'd like a closer view, click on the picture!"

Back when I made this I didn't include supplies lists with my pieces, so it's nice to recitify that now for this project.  As I write this I've just realised that it's possible that something I've used here might not be available any more.  If that turns out to be the case, I apologise, but look at it this way, it's your chance to use something different and make something that's all your own! :)  [EDIT - I created the supplies list and it's all good, yay!]

Supplies I used included:

Our ever-generous sponsor Simon Says Stamp is offering a $50 gift voucher as the prize again this week, just make something for the challenge and you could the winner! The winner will be chosen at random from those who enter the challenge, so why not give it a try? Stop Press - Dan in Disease Distress Debacle!

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week is "A Cameo Appearance".  There are all kinds of ways you can create something for this theme, you can be very literal and create your own vintage style cameo images with stamps or die cuts or go down the movie-style route and have a tool, image or technique that you love make a cameo appearance in your project.  This is an excuse for you to think about what might make a cameo appearance and steal the limelight this week - enter the challenge and you will be in the draw for a $50 shopping voucher at Simon Says Stamp!

Whatever you decide, one thing that ISN'T making a cameo appearance this week is...me!  As I write this I'm suffering with the norovirus and I have withdrawn from this week's and next week's challenges :(  Let's look on the bright side though, by the time you read this, I'll probably be feeling a bit better, though sadly too late to make our submission deadlines for the design team projects.  I'll still be popping around to look at some of the entries and scattering around the blog love :)

Say "Hi" to Dave and Flo

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week is "We Love Stamps!". This is an excuse for you to dig out your absolute favourite stamps and create something and enter it into the challenge to be in the running for a $50 shopping voucher at Simon Says Stamp!

As those of you who have found your way here from the Challenge Blog may already know, these two are my favourite large face stamps.  I have to limit how many times I use them because I'd hate to get bored with them!

One thing was clear when I started making these note cards, I wanted to showcase the lovely Market Square Emporium papers.  I love the vintage style colour pallete that they use and the shop signs are just so cool!  For the male card, I used a panel of the striped design overlaid with a ripped section from the reverse side.  I cut out the Cafe sign from another sheet and fixed it in place.  To give a better focus on the wording I applied my Archival Black ink pad directly to the edges of the paper to give a shadow effect.  The face was stamped separately, coloured, cut out and fixed in place before adding a shadow with Promarker.

The female card was created in a similar way, except that as her face was a little smaller I applied the torn strip to the bottom of her neck so that her head didn't appear to be floating in mid air!  I used a Festive Berries distress ink pad applied with an ink blending tool to add a little colour to her cheeks.  I'm loving the colours of these papers, keep an eye out for them, you'll be seeing them here again! :)
